Biography

I started ‘on the tools’ (as the expression goes) at a very early age. Making things became a passion in those childhood days. It’s never gone away and still drives me at this later stage in life.

As a teenager I progressed from wood and plastic into metalwork, and went from school to Tech College to study engineering. After that and for the next 20 years I worked in various aerospace and production engineering ‘jobbing shops’. During that time I learnt many of the skills passed down and developed over the generations from the time of the great engineers of the Georgian and Victorian era.

Becoming artistically frustrated in my early 40’s lead me to start my own business. At the beginning it was aimed at the Artistic Metalwork market. As the years passed commissions became very varied, ranging from contemporary, to traditional, to obscure, and even peculiar. Historic building work has become a speciality. The odd smattering of motor sport and agricultural work comes in from time to time. Repairs to sentimental items are regular.

I never forget my mentors, nor the lessons they taught. I hope I am as good as them to those I teach.
